Crowns & Bridges

Crowns & bridges are permanent fixes for dental problems because they involve keeping your existing teeth in place.

Dental crowns are an extremely effective way of repairing a severely damaged tooth, covering a root canal or hiding a discolored tooth.

The process of getting a crown involves:

  • Making an impression of the affected tooth.
  • Placement of a temporary crown while the impression is sent to a lab to create the crown.
  • Placement of the actual crown when finished.

Besides strengthening your teeth, crowns can be very effective tools to attach bridges.

Bridges are artificial teeth, anchored to existing teeth, that are designed to fill in gaps replacing missing teeth.

To make a bridge, the dentist will remove enamel from the anchor teeth or reduce the size of the teeth to be able to support the bridge. After this, the dentist will make an impression for the teeth and send this off to a lab to make the bridge. Once the lab returns the bridge the temporary bridge is removed and the permanent bridge is either placed onto the anchor teeth or cemented in place.

Bridges can either be removable or fixed. A fixed bridge can only be taken out by a dentist while a removable bridge can be taken off for cleaning.

Good treatment of crowns and bridges can keep them effective for your lifetime.
